Cape Reed Stepped Tiles & Top Cones

Cape Thatch Reed


The Tiles are manufactured
from Cape Thatch Reed
(Thamnochortus Insignis).
The tiles measure
800mm(32”) x 0mm(18”) x 25mm(1”)


Waterproof Top Cone


“Waterproof” Top Cone. The Reed is hand packed in a jig and then the reed particles are glued
together with Polyurethane
.


Cape Reed


Cape Reed changes color within one year from gold/yellow to the grey as shown in the photo.


Fiber Thatch Tiles

Tile with a clip. 6 Clips are stapled onto the rubber strip per tile. Tiles can be clipped onto 8mm (1/4”) rods or nailed/stapled onto timber battens




Clipped on "tiles” and a “Half" Top Cone used on the top end of
an oval steel frame
.



The re-enforced Polyurethane (rubber) strip allows the tiles to follow any contour or shape. Tiles can be nailed onto battens.

Thatch Tiles Umbrella

The “Large Tile” is mostly used on a 2m (6’6”) Umbrella, favored by beach owners on the Mediterranean beaches

Tropical Tiles & Top Cones

Tropical thatch tiles

Tropical tiles are made using the flower or seed part of the reed.
A tropical finish is obtained.
The tile measures:
800mm(32”) x 750mm(30”)
x 25mm(1”)



Tropical tiles are often used to extend the roof edge or to create
a unique finish.

Top Cone diameter is 1000mm (40”)





2m (6’6”) Umbrellas with the bottom tile a tropical tile measuring 2.5m (8’4”) and provides much more shade.


Cape reed material


Cape reed material, but notice the difference the Tropical Tiles make.  Tropical tiles will also age better.

Grated Cape Reed Tiles & Top Cones

Grated Thatch Tiles
A large gazebo covered with  
“Grated Thatch Tiles”. The tiles are brushed (combed) during the manufacturing process to provide
a smooth finish similar
to custom thatch.

With the grated or brushed (combed) finish only the tips of the Reed are exposed. The tile measures 800mm(32”) x 575mm(23”) 25mm(1”)

Combination Fiber/Reed Stepped Tiles & Top Cones. (Patented).

Thatch Roofs

Structures completed more than 5 years ago in Qatar. The roofs will be good for another 15 years while in the same climatic conditions Cape Reed tiles will have to be replaced
after 5 to 6 years
.

Combination Fiber/Reed tile

A Combination Fiber/Reed tile has a layer of Polyolefin fitted on top of the Reed to protect the reed underneath. Tile sizes are the same than normal reed tiles. Top Cone sizes also the same.

“Waterproof” Cape Reed and Combination Fiber/Reed Tiles

Waterproof Thatching System


A demo by Zameka and Golden on the “Waterproof System”. The system allow for two tiles that attach with special clips with a waterproof membrane in between.




Zameka, demonstrating how the tiles should be clipped on. Tile sizes stay the same except that the two tiles are only 12.5mm (1/2”) thick. Combined the thickness is 25mm (1”), the same than all the tiles.

For all 90 degree corners a special corner tile is required.
The corner tiles measure
450mm (18”) x 450mm (18”)






Without using corner tiles these square umbrellas would simply not have been possible.
